What is a link in bio, and how do you add one?
A short guide for anyone who gets clients from Instagram, YouTube or WhatsApp: what a link in bio is, what to put on it, and exactly where to paste it on each app.
What is a link in bio?
A link in bio is the one clickable link in your social media profile. On Instagram it sits just under your bio, and it’s the only place where people can tap through to somewhere else, because links in captions don’t work. When a post says “link in bio”, it’s telling people to go to your profile and tap that link.
Most people point that link at a small page that lists everything else: their WhatsApp, services, latest video and payment details. That page is also called a link in bio page, or a bio link.
Why one link beats five
Instagram now allows up to five links, but visitors see only the first one unless they tap to expand the list. A single page puts everything in view, lets you choose what comes first, and stays the same everywhere you share it: Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp status, your visiting card and the QR code at your counter.
What to put on your link in bio page
Think about what a new follower wants to know before they message you. For most service professionals that’s the same short list:
A way to talk to you
A WhatsApp button with a message already written, so starting a chat takes one tap.
What you offer and the price
Each service with its length and price. Clients who see a price ask fewer questions and book faster.
When you’re free
Open slots they can pick from, shown in their own time zone if they live abroad.
How to pay you
Your UPI QR code or ID for India, and a PayPal or card link for clients abroad.
Proof you’re good
A short video, a few reviews you have permission to share, or your latest work.
Your other links
YouTube channel, free downloads, an email list or anything else you’re promoting this month.

How to add a link in bio on YouTube

- 2Go to Customisation, then the Profile tab.

- 4Publish. The link appears on your channel page under your channel description.
How to add a link in bio on WhatsApp Business
- 1Open the WhatsApp Business app and go to Settings.
- 2Tap Business tools, then Business profile.
- 3Paste your link into the Website field and save.
- 4Share it in your status as well, so contacts who don’t open your profile still see it.
Tips for a link in bio that brings bookings
- Lead with one action. Put the thing you want most at the top, usually WhatsApp or Book a time. Everything else comes after.
- Show your prices. It saves you from answering “price?” all day and brings you clients who are ready to pay.
- Think about clients abroad. Show times in their time zone and offer a way to pay that works outside India.
- Keep it fast. Many visitors open your page on mobile data. A light page that opens in a few seconds keeps them.
- Use a name people remember. Match your Instagram handle so the address is easy to say on a call or print on a card.
- Watch what gets tapped. Check which links people use and move the popular ones higher.

Questions
Instagram lets you add up to five links, but visitors see only the first one unless they tap to expand the list. A link in bio page shows everything at once, with your most important action at the top.
Many tools have a free plan. Card About Me is free during our pilot, and we never take a share of what your clients pay you, because payments go straight to your UPI ID or payment link.
No. A link in bio page works like a one-page website you can set up from your phone in a few minutes. Many professionals use it instead of a website.
Use the same name as your Instagram handle if you can, so clients recognise it. Keep it short, lowercase and easy to say out loud, for example cardabout.me/@yourname.
